Siloam Springs, Ark.: Cobb-Vantress, LLC, a global leader in poultry genetics, proudly announces the appointment of Dr. Jessica Starkey to lead Cobb’s initiatives in muscle biology and meat science. This strategic addition to the Research and Development leadership team underscores Cobb’s unwavering commitment to scientific rigor, innovation, and delivering exceptional value to its customers.
For generations, Cobb has been trusted to provide healthy, affordable chicken—driven by a relentless pursuit of genetic progress and product excellence. Dr. Starkey’s expertise will play a pivotal role in helping advance Cobb’s understanding of poultry muscle development and meat quality defects , helping to uncover root causes and drive solutions that directly support customer performance and product quality.
In her new role, Dr. Starkey will lead initiatives in sensory technology to enhance yield and product quality and consistency, collaborate across global teams, and elevate Cobb’s scientific presence through independent research and international partnerships.
With over 25 years of experience in agriculture and more than 20 years specializing in animal muscle growth biology and meat science, Dr. Starkey brings a wealth of knowledge and industry insight. She most recently served as Associate Professor in the Department of Poultry Science at Auburn University, where she led groundbreaking research and instruction programs in growth physiology, meat science, and poultry production.

Dr. Starkey holds a B.Sc. in Animal Science from Kansas State University, an M.Sc. in Nutritional Muscle Biology and Ruminant Nutrition, and a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of Connecticut.
