Cobb Invites 2026 Research Pre‑Proposals to Drive Innovation in Poultry Genetics

Siloam Springs, Ark.: Cobb-Vantress, LLC. announced today that it will begin accepting pre‑proposals for the 2026 funding cycle of the Cobb Research Initiative (CRI) on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. This global program supports groundbreaking research that advances innovation in poultry genetics. Researchers may submit pre‑proposals beginning January 27, the opening day of the International Production and Processing Expo (IPPE).

Launched in 2023, the CRI accelerates meaningful progress in protein production by fostering collaboration across diverse scientific fields. The program unites new ideas and emerging technologies to strengthen the genetic foundation of modern poultry.

“At Cobb, our mission is to continually elevate genetics, global food security, and production efficiency,” said Dr. William Herring, Vice President of Research and Development at Cobb. “Achieving these goals requires insights far beyond traditional poultry science. By working with experts in engineering, data science, molecular biology, automation, and other disciplines, we’re accelerating innovation and delivering tools that enhance genetic progress worldwide.”

Goals of the Cobb Research Initiative:

  • Improved Management and Analytics
Strengthen the genetics of Cobb products through enhanced management tools and advanced analytics.
  • Health and Welfare
Improve animal health and welfare outcomes of poultry flocks and reduce the impact of avian pathogens.
  • Develop New Tools and Methods
Develop technologies that accelerate genetic progress across all traits, including advancing new traits and improving measurement of existing ones.
  • Identify and Develop Understanding
Advance knowledge of nutrition, health, fertility, and hatchability as they relate to Cobb broiler breeder genetics.

Since its launch, the CRI has delivered global impact—providing researchers with visibility, resources, and support not commonly available through traditional academic channels. Cobb has received more than 100 applications and funded over 15 projects to date.

“These projects are true partnerships,” Herring added. “Our collaborative approach sets the CRI apart, and the feedback from research teams has been overwhelmingly positive.”
